The citiES 2030 Annual Meeting kicked off with an institutional dialogue moderated by Ignacio Torres (Deputy Director of Biodiversity and Climate Change at the Biodiversity Foundation), Elena Pita (Director General of the Spanish Office for Climate Change), Elisa Rivera (Director General of Planning, Coordination, and Knowledge Transfer, Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities), and María Teresa Verdú (Director General of Urban Agenda and Architecture, Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda).
The discussion focused on the main challenges and opportunities for accelerating climate action in cities. The conversation highlighted the need to strengthen coordination among public policies, advance collaboration between government agencies, and translate climate planning into concrete actions on the ground.
Among the most notable messages was the the fundamental role of cities in fulfilling climate commitments, as well as the importance of establishing permanent forums for dialogue, strengthening multilevel governance, and securing the necessary resources to drive the ecological transition. Key issues such as innovation, urban renewal, climate change adaptation, and the role of collaborative networks in sharing knowledge and best practices.
