Silvia Ghiretti, Project and Policy Manager at the European Regions Research and Innovation Network (ERIN), shared with us a crucial perspective on future European funding—one of the strategic topics addressed during the meeting.
The session offered a overview on the negotiations on the next Multiannual Financial Framework (2028–2034) and on the instruments that will shape funding opportunities in the coming years.
Among the key developments discussed were the streamlining of European programs, the creation of new funding mechanisms aimed at competitiveness and innovation, and the development of future National and Regional Partnership Plans. The importance of cities actively participating in the design and planning processes for these instruments was also emphasized to ensure that priorities related to climate mitigation, adaptation, and resilience are given prominent consideration.
The session ended with a call to strengthen the role of cities in this new funding period and to draw on the experience gained through European missions to influence future investment priorities.
