For the second consecutive year, from July 17 to 19, citiES 2030 organizes a training event within the framework of the summer courses of the Menéndez Pelayo International University.
Context
The European Climate Neutral Cities Mission is a European Commission initiative that promotes the sustainable transformation of European cities to mitigate the effects of climate change. Spain has taken a leading role in it thanks to the leadership of its cities and the support of citiES 2030.
Three days dedicated to reflect, learn, share and design mechanisms for the effective involvement of citizens and the private sector in the implementation of the Climate City Contracts in Spanish cities.

Climate change confronts us with an extreme complexity as it weaves aspects of formal sciences, social life, ethics, politics, among others. In this first session we will address the importance of thinking about the future of the world in which we are facing the possibility of its disappearance. We will reflect on the role and response of the city and the citizenry to this scenario.

In April 2022 the European Union announced the 112 cities selected to undertake sustainable transformation through the Mission. Spanish cities have been leading this process having already submitted their Climate City Contracts and strengthening multilevel collaboration. Through this first session, we will recap the main advances of the Mission and give a prospective of the next steps in the Spanish and European context.

TA1 - Workshop for the diagnosis and design of more inclusive climate action plans.
Do climate action plans effectively address the diversity that makes up urban societies? The climate crisis does not only involve environmental challenges; it also affects access to rights. The European Mission presents an opportunity to improve quality of life and reduce inequalities. In this workshop we will learn tools and methodologies for analyzing the impact of emission reduction levers on inequalities. The ultimate goal is to incorporate a social perspective in the design of climate action plans. Activity organized by itdUPM and Oxfam Intermón.

TA2 - Workshop on citizen involvement and just transition.
A workshop given by the Transversal Landscape team, which will explore strategies for achieving genuine and effective citizen participation. Through the "ladder of participation" approach, concrete tools and proposals that cities can implement in a practical way will be shown. Barriers and challenges associated with participatory processes and how they are integrated into climate action plans will be presented.
